Ladder Safety Kit (Basic)
The ladder safety kit is for those who just have a requirement to maintain a third point of contact on a secured leaning ladder once they have reached their working level.
Remember you must never climb above the 5th rung of a leaning ladder as this will allow you to connect your short restraint lanyard as high and as tight as possible to reduce the fall factor to as low as possible.
Kit content
1 x Full body 2-point safety harness (Ridgegear) comes with two D rings front and rear anchorage, this allows the user to attach a short ladder restraint lanyard with a large snap hook on one end and a twist-lock karabiner at the other end.
1 x Restraint lanyard with karabiner, this allows the operative to clip onto the secure leaning ladder and have two hands free to complete their task at height when using a ladder.
2 x ladder screw eye, Once you have drilled a 10mm hole in the wall structure, you can then insert a wall plug (Not Supplied) screw the stainless steel screw eye into the plug and tighten as per training.
1 x 5mtr ladder tie ratchet strap, this is used to feed through the leaning ladder stiles at a height off at the fifth or sixth rung from the bottom of the ladder, you then run the ladder ratchet tie through the eyelet of the anchor and tighten as per training. (Do not overtighten)
The level 1 safety kit harness and webbing comes with a manufactures 10 year lifespan on the webbing.
Please note that when using this kit on your ladder, you must have received training, your ladder must be stable at the bottom and the top.
Level (1) Work at height procedures when using a ladder or small universal ladder.
(1) Risk assessment, this must be completed by law, you must identify all potential hazards and the risks, followed by your safe working procedures to reduce the hazard to the lowest possible form of risk.
(2) Collective measures, cones, hazard tape, warning signs, second person may be required, but you must create a safe working zone to warn others that you are working at height.
(3) Make sure the ladders are stable using the appropriate stabilisation devices. Secure, top and bottom, tie the ladder into the wall, make sure the ladder is at the correct angle.
(4) Use of additional PFPE (personal fall protection equipment}, harness, hard hat with chin strap, and ladder restraint lanyard with karabiner and scaffold hook, (cows’ tail).
(5) If you can safely attach tools, drill, work equipment to yourself, and you do not exceed the maximum load on the leaning ladder, you can climb the ladder with both hands and feet maintaining 3 points of contact always. When you reach your workstation, attach your ladder restraint lanyard to the ladder as high and tight as possible, this way if you fall, your fall factor should be zero.
