Train the Trainer Height Rescue and Evacuation Course

Our CPD-accredited Rescue at Height and Evacuation Train the Trainer Course will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to professionally train others in how to perform a rescue of a casualty suspended at height.

Duration: Two days. However, if the learner has previous evidence and certification on the use and inspection of fall arrest harnesses and rescue at height, then the Train the Trainer element can be completed in one day.

Course Overview - Why Take This Course?

The Rescue at Height and Evacuation Train the Trainer course will teach learners how to perform a rescue of a casualty suspended at height.

Learners will also be equipped with a range of training methods and skills that will enhance their abilities as a trainer.

We specialise in training others to use rescue kits such as GOTCHA original kit, IKAR controlled descent device, Petzl I’D double brake descender, plus many more.

By the end of the Rescue at Height and Evacuation Train the Trainer course delegates will have learned the skills necessary to train others on the use of their height safety rescue kit.

Course Content

Part 1 – Train the Trainer

  • Fundamentals for becoming a trainer
  • How to write and structure the training
  • Factors on developing your training skills
  • Effective training practices within the workplace

 

 Part 2 – Working at Height, Height Rescue & Evacuation

  • Introduction to the relevant legislation
  • Planning for work at height
  • Identify safe access and egress, and system of work at height for a rescue
  • Hazards and dangers whilst carrying out a rescue at height
  • The importance of an anchor point selection
  • The importance of inspection, care and maintenance of rescue equipment
  • The implications of being suspended in a harness and the importance of rescue provision when working at height
  • Have a basic understanding of the different approaches to rescue and how the rescue kit fits into a hierarchy of options, example planning and the emergency services’ responsibility
  • The importance of personal safety whilst carrying out the rescue
  • Post-rescue care and handover to a competent first aider or the emergency services
  • Identification of the components for the rescue kit and the strengths and limitations when using a height safety rescue kit
  • Ability to assess the situation and select the appropriate safe method of height safety recovery techniques

Practical Element

Demonstrate the skills required to train others on the rescue and evacuation of a casualty suspended at height from a fall.

This part of the course will demonstrate to the operative the following procedures when using the equipment as below. The operative will be required to participate in the full use of the equipment.

  • How to wear a safety harness correctly
  • Single fall arrest lanyards use and inspection
  • Fall arrest blocks
  • Select, pre-use inspect, set up and use a rescue system that is suitable for the task
  • Management of a casualty
  • Deployment of the rescue kit from a position of safety and attachment to a casualty
  • Rescue a casualty suspended following a fall
  • Rescue a casualty who is incapacitated at height from sudden sickness or injury
  • Use of the rescue kit to lower a casualty to the ground

Certification

This course is accredited through Apple Group for 3 years. Candidates successfully completing this training course will receive a certificate that may be used as evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) within your industry.
