Course Overview - Why Take This Course?

The abrasive wheels train the trainer course will help trainers to develop an understanding of how to operate an abrasive wheel and identify the hazards and risks associated with the use of an abrasive wheel or portable handheld grinder.

Trainees will also be equipped with a range of teaching methods and trainer skills that will help to enhance their abilities as abrasive wheels awareness and practical use instructors.

By the completion of the abrasive wheels train the trainer course, delegates will have learned the skills necessary to train others on the awareness and practical use in the workplace and will be accredited to deliver in-house abrasive wheels training within their company.

Course Aims & Objectives

  • To train candidates in the skills and provide knowledge where required on the use of abrasive wheels and handheld grinders.
  • Select the correct equipment and mount abrasive and cutting wheels safely in accordance with the PUWER regulations.
  • Wear the correct PPE associated with portable handheld grinders and abrasives.

Part (1) – Train the Trainer

  • Fundamentals for becoming a trainer
  • How to write and structure the training
  • Factors on developing your training skills
  • Effective training practices within the workplace

Part (2) – Abrasive Wheels

  • Current legislation
  • Health and safety in the workshop
  • Hazards and risks arising from the use of abrasive wheels and the precautions to be observed
  • Safe operating procedures as per user instructor guidance
  • Reasons for injuries (accidental contact with the rotating wheel)
  • PPE requirements
  • Handheld grinder types
  • Noise and vibration
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels with their type, size, and maximum operating speed
  • How to store, handle, and transport abrasive wheels
  • How to inspect and test abrasive wheels for damage
  • The functions of all the components used with abrasive and cutting wheels
  • How to assemble abrasive wheels correctly to make sure they are properly balanced and fit to use
  • Practical use and inspection of handheld angle grinder, bench grinder and abrasives

Certification

This course is accredited through CPD (Continuous Professional Development) under the banner of safe use of power tools. Candidates successfully completing this training course will receive a certificate that may be used as evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) within your industry.

Course Location

Apple Group Training locations are based in Leeds, Sheffield, and Birmingham. This training course can also be held at one of our 300 partner training centres in the UK.

If you cannot travel to one of our training centre locations then we can come to your premises to provide training on-site as long as your workplace is suitable.
