The purpose of this training course is to provide the information and knowledge required to choose the correct harness and lanyard when working at height.

The harness practical use and inspection training course has been specifically designed to provide employers, employees, subcontractors, anyone with the correct information as per current guidelines.

Any person who has a duty to wear a harness as part of their daily task must be trained on its use including choosing the correct lanyard for fall arrest or fall restraint.

Delegates will have complete confidence knowing that they will have received training to the highest standard.

Course Aims & Objectives

  • Provide the correct information to delegates on the current legislation.
  • Help those with the responsibility to choose the correct harness and lanyard.
  • Explain to the delegate the correct procedures for completing a visual inspection of your harness and lanyard.

  • Course introduction
  • Previous experience and knowledge
  • Appreciation of the requirements of UK legislation relevant to the course type
  • Latest guidance on when and where a harness must be worn
  • CE marking
  • Traceability
  • Harness strengths – 140kg or 150kg – How to choose the correct harness
  • Safety harness types – what is the difference?
  • Choosing the correct type of harness – fall arrest or fall restraint?
  • Choosing the correct harness for rooftop safety, portable ladders, fixed ladders, IPAF, flat roof access egress or work position
  • The importance of user inspection before and after use
  • Rescue provision when wearing a harness – what the user needs to know
  • What happens in the event a worker is suspended at height when wearing a harness
  • How to wear a harness in accordance with the manufacturer instructions
  • Introduction to suspension loops – what is their purpose?
  • Practical participation by course candidates on wearing a harness and attaching the correct lanyard for working at height

Certification

This course is accredited through the CPD standards office. Candidates successfully completing this training course will receive a certificate which may be used as evidence of Continuous Professional Development.

Course Location

Apple Group Training locations are based around the UK. This training course can also be held at anyone of our 300 partner training centres in the UK.

If you cannot travel to one of our training centre locations then we can come to your premises to provide training on-site as long as your workplace is suitable.
