Course Overview - Why Take This Course?

This training course will help employees to identify the hazards and the risks of using power tools and workplace machinery in a workplace environment.

Identify the precautions that must be taken when operating the equipment, in accordance with Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

At the end of the Safe use of Power Tool and Machinery training course delegates will have learned the skills necessary to use their power tools and machinery safely in accordance with their company rams and the latest HSE guidance.

This training course is designed for employees and those who operate handheld power tools and machinery at work.

Anyone who has the responsibility in the workplace on the safe use of power tools.

Employers, managers, supervisors and employees who just need to refresh themselves on the legalities, hazards and risks and any additional controls that will protect the user and others in the working vicinity.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES

To provide delegates with the correct information as per parliamentary laws and regulations.

Make delegates aware of the hazards and the risks when using power tools in a working environment.

Train delegates on the correct procedures to put in place to protect themselves or others when using power tools or machinery at work.

Course Content

  • Course introduction (previous experience and knowledge on the use of your equipment).
  • Power tool – machinery manufacture user instructions.
  • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
  • General use and the safety precautions that must be followed.
  • The importance of selecting the correct equipment to complete the task.
  • Identification of the component parts of your work equipment.
  • MHSWR (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations).
  • Risk management – who has the responsibility to ensure compliance.
  • How to identify the hazards and the risks whilst using power tools – machinery in the workplace.
  • Collective and individual safety controls.
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment Regulations).
  • Personal safety to yourself and others when using power tools – machinery.
  • Inspection of your power tool – machinery before and after use.
  • Practical use of your power tools, machinery, and equipment, with delegate participation.
  • Storage and isolation procedures of your equipment after use.

Training Requirements

Operatives will be required to participate in the full use of their power tools – equipment under supervision.

The training environment must be safe.

Instruction and information must be provided.

Full personal protective equipment must be used as a last resort.

Certification

Candidates successfully completing this training course will receive a certificate on the Safe use of their Power Tools – equipment which can be used as evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
